From the Babylonian Talmud...

A beautiful teaching from the Babylonian Talmud:

According to this medieval Jewish text, the angel Lailah lives in the womb and watches over the embryo until it is time be to be born.  The angel teaches the unborn child everything there is to know about the mysteries of life and his or her own soul. Lailah also places a lighted candle at the head of the unborn infant, so he or she can see from one end of the world to the other.  When the time comes for the child to be born, the angel Lailah puts her finger in front of her own mouth as if to say “shhhh” and then presses the upper lip of the child so all the memories are forgotten.  According to this story, the light touch on the child’s lip leaves a small indentation about the lip called a philtrum, which is something we all have.

I think, perhaps, the angel Lailah just did not press quite hard enough on some children’s lips and this is why they come into this current life with soul memories.  How blessed we are to have these children share their wisdom with us. How important it is to listen, listen very carefully.

Stories From the Very Young

I have received many beautiful stories over the past few years from parents/caregivers whose young children have shared personal stories.  Here are a couple of my favorites:

I Love You More (From Wayne Dyer’s Book, Memories of Heaven)

My son was around age four when we were playing “I love you more because.”  I told him, “I love you beyond infinity, around the moon two times, around Mars and touching every star on the way back to you”, pretty good, right?  At least that is what I thought until, very seriously my son places his hands on either side of my face, locked his crystal blue eyes with mine and said, “Mommy, I love you more because I picked you while I was in Heaven.”

Needless to say, he won.

A story from a friend about her 5 year old, Billy

Five year old Billy had a best friend, Carlos, who he played T-ball with every Saturday.  Carlos passed after he was given the wrong medicine and a friend put together a memory book and asked all of his friends to contribute. Here is a letter than Billy wrote to Carlos:

Dear Carlos,

You will be a newborn on another day.  You will know the magic of jumping down from heaven.

You will always be my friend.
