Today I am honored to continue reading the war diaries, a compilation of small essays by Amber Kieniewicz detailing the experiences, emotions, and lessons learned from hosting Ukrainian people, primarily mothers and children, as the war continues to destroy their home country.

We are opening our house this season to receive Ukrainian refugees. We can accommodate up to 40 people in en-suite bedrooms . As of now, we are housing 35 refugees. We provide for their food, shelter, warmth, psychological and medical help.

His studies include diverse subjects such as astronomy, geology, the Gaia Theory, consciousness studies and gnostic christianity. Her interest in protecting aesthetics, especially poetry against the strong tide of materialism, is central to her work.

#141 The Importance of Interweaving Spirituality and Education for Our Children with Dr. Amy Chapman

Dr. Amy Chapman is a Research Fellow at Teachers College, Columbia University where she uses qualitative approaches to understand how people define, develop, and change communities. She is also the Director for the Collaborative for Spirituality in Education, a research hub of Teachers College which examines spiritually-supportive schools and the impact of school culture on civic participation.

A New Jersey native, Amy spent many formative years in Boston. While there, she served for fifteen years in parish ministry, ten of which were spent as the Director of Faith Formation at St. Ignatius Church in Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts. Amy has spent considerable time in communities around the world which have deeply influenced her thinking and practice of education, including Dublin, Ireland; Camden, New Jersey; West Kingston, Jamaica; San Salvador, El Salvador; and most especially Tacna, Peru.

Amy has a Ph.D. in Educational Psychology and Education Technology (EPET) from Michigan State University's College of Education. She holds three degrees from Boston College: an A.B. in history and secondary education; an A.M. in Developmental and Educational Psychology; and a C.A.E.S. in Religious Education.

In today’s exciting episode with Dr. Amy Chapman, we discuss her “whole child” approach to education that seeks to address the spiritual needs of children in a more holistic way.

Longtime Colorado local, Art Goodtimes, has been a staple in the Telluride community not only as a former County Commissioner for San Miguel County but as a poet and writer. Art serves as the Master of Ceremonies and poet laureate of the Telluride Mushroom Festival. Additionally, Art is the Founder and Director of Talking Gourds. In 2010, he was named the first Western Slope Poet Laureate at the first annual Karen Chamberlain Poetry Festival in Carbondale. Art's multitude of literary accomplishments also includes longtime journalist and editor for Telluride Watch and Cortez’s Four Corners Free Press, as well as poetry editor of several publications, including Fungi magazine, Mountain Gazette, Wild Earth, and more.

#130 Helping Parents Heal With Elizabeth Boisson and Irene Vouvalides

Elizabeth Boisson is the President and Co-Founder of Helping Parents Heal.  She has four beautiful children, two of whom are in spirit: Chelsea who passed when she was 2 days old, and Morgan who transitioned at the Base Camp of Mount Everest in Tibet while on a university exchange program with 13 other students when he was almost 21 years old. She also has two beautiful daughters: Alix, 28, who is pursuing a PhD in Public Health at the Gillings School at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and Christine, 26, who recently graduated with a master’s degree in art history from University College London.

On October 20, 2009, while Morgan was undergoing CPR on Mount Everest, Elizabeth asked his roommate to put his phone up to Morgan’s ear.  While speaking to her son, she felt him hug her from the inside.  It was at that moment that she realized that love lives forever.  A week later, Elizabeth started a Facebook group and then began holding monthly parent meetings in Arizona. Three years later joined forced with Mark Ireland to create the nonprofit support group Helping Parents Heal, which currently has over 130 affiliate groups and 20,000 members throughout the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, South Africa, India, Australia and New Zealand. 

Elizabeth spent several years in New Delhi, India while in middle school, high school and college and then lived for 15 years in France while studying and then starting a family.  She did both her undergraduate and graduate studies at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, as well as at the Université Paul Valéry in Montpellier, France.  She also taught at both universities. She is a certified yoga instructor and teaches yoga for healing grief.

Irene Vouvalides’ Story:

My best friend, my only child, my beautiful 24 year old daughter Carly Elizabeth Hughes passed to esophageal-gastric cancer on February 17th, 2013. Like so many of us who have had this devastating experience my daughter’s passing sent me on a spiritual quest. I have found friends and comfort through this remarkable group Helping Parents Heal. In the short time since Carly’s passing I have had definite proof that consciousness survives physical death, that Carly is well, and with me always. I have been fortunate to speak with mediums who were able to provide absolute evidence of the afterlife, indisputable information relayed bringing comfort and helping to lighten the heavy weight of grief. With family and Carly’s friends we have created a foundation in her honor- Carly’s Kids A Foundation For Education, I hope you will take the time to read about us and what we are doing in Carly’s memory.

Helané Wahbeh is the Director of Research at the Institute of Noetic Sciences, an adjunct assistant professor in the Department of Neurology at Oregon Health & Science University, and president of the Parapsychological Association. Dr. Wahbeh is clinically trained as a naturopathic physician and research trained with a Master of Clinical Research and two post-doctoral research fellowships. She has published on and spoken internationally about her studies on complementary and alternative medicine, mind-body medicine, extended human capacities, stress, posttraumatic stress disorder and their relationships to physiology, health, and healing. Marjorie Woollacott, Ph.D., is an Emeritus Professor and prior chair of the Dept. of Human Physiology, and member of the Institute of Neuroscience, at the University of Oregon. She taught courses in neuroscience and rehabilitation, as well as complementary medicine and meditation. She is President of the Academy for the Advancement of Post-Materialist Sciences (AAPS) and Research Director for the International Association of Near-Death Studies (IANDS). Woollacott has received over 7.2 million dollars in research funding for her research in child development, rehabilitation medicine and most recently, meditation and spiritual awakening. She has published more than 200 scientific articles and written or co-edited eight books. Her latest book, Infinite Awareness (2015) (winner of eight awards, including the 2017 Parapsychological Association Book Award, Eric Hoffer Book Award and the Nautilus Book Award) pairs Woollacott’s research as a neuroscientist with her self-revelations about the mind’s spiritual power.

She is the author of Life with God for Children: A Curriculum for the Spiritual Formation of Children and Good Dirt: A Devotional for the Spiritual Formation of Families, both can be found on her website. Her book Spiritual Conversations with Children: Listening to God Together published with IVP, is now available. Lacy lives on a small farm on the Western Slope of the Rocky Mountains. The rhythms of the earth have formed and shaped her. She currently worships with an Anglican community, but finds something of God in many spaces and places.

#123 Part 2: The True Nature of Man with Dr. Tony Cicoria

Dr. Tony Cicoria is a part time board certified Orthopedic Surgeon in Maine, former Chief of Orthopedics at Chenango Memorial Hospital, Norwich, New York, and Clinical Assistant Professor of Orthopedics at SUNY Upstate Medical School in Syracuse. He received his BS in Biology from The Citadel and is a graduate of the Medical University of South Carolina (MD, PhD) and the University of Virginia Orthopedic Surgery Residency.

Dr. Cicoria had the unfortunate (or fortunate) luck of being struck by lightning in 1994 while speaking on a public telephone during a family reunion near Albany, NY. As a result of the lightning, Dr. Cicoria had a near death and out of body experience (NDE, OBE) and became a sudden savant for classical piano music and composition. Because of his unusual introduction to the world of music, Dr. Cicoria has been featured in various magazines and was featured in Dr. Oliver Sacks’ book “Musicophilia: Tales of Music and the Brain”. Tony has given numerous recitals featuring music that he has composed, and has appeared in various television presentations around the world. He published his first works on a CD entitled “Notes From an Accidental Pianist” through CDBaby.com, and is currently working on a book about his experience called “On the Other Side of Life”
